Delos glowing beauty

Delos is an ark of history that has been announced as a Unesco Heritage Site, just a breath away from the cosmopolitan Mykonos. The cradle of Apollo, god of light and Artemis, goddess of fertility and wilderness is a world-renowned archaeological site. The visitor gets mesmerized by the remarkable ancient antiquities dated back from the Archaic, the Classical, and the Hellenistic periods. 

The birthplace of gods was considered sacred. As a matter of fact, no one was allowed to born or die there. It was also a commercial center and used to host large gatherings to worship gods. Athletic events and great feasts were also taking place, rendering Delos a prestigious island, known worldwide for its sacredness. 

The uninhibited island features an astonishing array of historical landmarks. The imposing circular building, Agora of the Competaliasts, was dedicated to Hermes and its ruins still fascinate the visitor.

The ancient theater is a must-see landmark; it used to accommodate five thousand people. Impressive floor mosaics can be seen even to this day. They are found in the once rich House of Dionysus, House of the Masks, House of Dolphins and House of Tritons.

Probably the most recognizable sight of Delos, the Avenue of the Lions was once dotted with sixteen marble sculptures to guard the island. Only replicas are found on the site while the authentic sculptures are displayed at island's archaeological museum, so don't forget to visit this intriguing edifice that host magnificent findings of Delos.
